Interesting Programs at SFU

Post  CLau09 on Sat Nov 22, 2008 12:02 am

What kind of fun and interesting programs are there to take at SFU? I'm planning to go into Business but I'm looking for an alternate program to consider. Any ideas?

hmm... that's hard to answer... i mean, seriously, what interests you? That'll probably give you a good indication of what program you want to go into. Put up what you want to do 10 years from now. Put up anything you want. Doesn't even have to be a job. And we can work from there.

But there's one program that everyone who has a chance to should go into. It's called the Undergraduate Semester in Dialogue: www.sfu.ca/dialogue/undergrad - an innovative program that challenges students to engage their communities. And during the process, each student find an opportunity to step outside their comfort zones and grow.

Seriously, apply to this one as early as you can. This semester, I have a couple friends who got published in Vancouver Sun, I was a moderator at the all-candidates debate at the Coquitlam Civic Debates, we all held a guerilla theatre session around Translink (see video at website), and we threw together a health conference in a month and a half's time (and hotshots from Vancouver Coastal Health and Canadian Red Cross came to our conference!). We did all this and more in one semester. It pushes you so far out of your comfort zone that you have to confront your own fears and anxieties. More than one person has broken down in class crying, but we all trust each other enough to give each other the space and time for that. But in the end of all that, you've learned to master your own fears, and do more than you ever dreamed possible.

As someone who's finishing UGSID, I can't help but feel like Spiderman: So much power, so much responsibility. It's an intense experience.

Shoot me an email if you have questions.
